Sure, you're right, capitalism will always drive for the money. It also has tremendous power. But that doesn't make it evil and it doesn't make money evil. Crazy-making attachment to money might not be so hot, as you point out, but its usefulness is not be be denied. Those who are trying to use it to make positive change - well, I say they might as well try. Better than making better bombs. And, Bob, I think you could charge a lot more for your psychic reading services. Don't undersell yourself! No group rates.

Thanks for commenting! The Planet Green part of the post stirred things up a bit and I'm going to be posting a "part two" soon.

Hi Lee,
Great subject and I loved seeing it from that perspective. That sounded like it would have been a great panel discussion to observe. I'm forwarding this to my friends who own their own businesses. Maybe they can "tap" into their world changing potential.
Best,
Shannon

Hey Lee,

"Conscious capitalism" is the latest buzzword. Applying a Diogenes-like squint, I have my doubts. Corporations are ultimately answerable to their shareholders; if social media pressures them to be more "green" they will be to maintain market share ("green" being the operative word). But at best being pressured into these new values will be a superficial spiritual varnish that doesn't run skin deep (as if doing good works alone for all to see can get one into "Heaven!"). Until all upper management-types (and those crawling up the corporate ladders to supplant them) have Scrooge-like epiphanies where will this go?

As sages have said for millenia, money is the root of all evil. Or rather, attachment to it. And all its trappings--status and power. Capitalism is a paean to this attachment by its nature.

One hopes the hearts of men will change. But the image of Lao Tse atop his water buffalo leaving China--discouraged that no one would actually practice the philosophy of his Tao--comes to mind.

But what do I know? Perhaps everything will work out fine--if we can get Frank Capra to pen the ending. Think I'll channel his spirit tonight and ask him to pony up. By-the-way, I'm a psychic medium, working for the welfare of the planet ($100 for a 20-minute reading; group rates available. Ask me about my corporate seminars!).
